it didn’t occur to them that the disappearance of eleanor or the break up tweet favorites applied to them. they’re too obstinate for a seeding campaign. they just gotta tell ‘em it’s over and let them deal with it.

I think these Jamaican Flag people and the “they CANT come out after ALL THESE LIES” people are expecting a lot more coddling and hand holding than they’re going to get.

Someone I know recently bought twitter followers for fun, and it was $5 for 1000. And after she bought them, real people thought "well, she must be worth following" and she started real people she didn't pay for follow her.

A

Yeah I’ve worked for startups that have bought followers to make their launch look more anticipated than it is.

Buying twitter followers to manufacture influence is SO simple.

I seems I spoke too soon about not getting many astroturfers anymore.

SoulCycle anon, you just made me LAUGH with your transparency.

Hi, sorry I was the one that asked you about the damage control beard in the first place. I didn't mean to sound naive, I was just trying to figure out if people like Taylor would be made to comment on it or built into the story somehow. I do know this industry often doesn't leave room for explanations etc, but I thought maybe it would be different considering her team might not be happy with her admiring she was a beard. I suppose though she might just say she was helping a friend. Anyway sorry

A

No need to apologize, there’s nothing wrong with learning and growing.

As goodbyeadulthood has pointed out, Taylor’s team will likely be given a heads-up in advance of Harry coming out so they can respond to it if they like. But as I’m sure you’ve seen as a member of the One Direction fandom, when something uncomfortable happens, often the official reply is no reply at all.

And yes, if there is any sort of direct acknowledgement, it’ll most likely be one about helping a friend.

I see what you mean, but that relationship was not nearly as well known, and Ellen page isn't nearly as famous or analyzed as Louis, so I don't think the situations are fairly comparable. You're very right in saying that Elounor's fans are majority just sheep who will forget her quickly, but I don't think they would do so without an explanation. There are thousands of elounor blogs & twitter accounts and the media constantly talks abt their relationship no matter how trivial, its unprecedented

A

I know this is going to sound super mean, but you are insane. Ellen Page and Alexander Skarsgard are VASTLY more famous than Louis Tomlinson by himself, or better yet Louis Tomlinson + some random British student.

Harry? Probably not. But Louis? They blow Louis out of the fucking water.

It’s clear you really have no perspective of the fame the individual members of One Direction have.

As for everything else being swept aside, I don't necessarily agree with that. Yeah any fake relationships have been swept aside in the past, but I can't a recall a situation quite like elounor where the beard has grown such a massive fan base not just for the pairing but as an individual. I think that changes the situation a little and at least some explanation will be required, by the media as well. Just my 2 cents.

A

Eleanor’s fan base is largely fake.

Go ahead, find a single Elounor shipper post on tumblr with more than a million notes. There are LOADS of h/l posts that have that many, so if she has so many fans, this should be easy.

Twitter followers cost what, $10 for 1000? Probably less?

I don’t doubt that she’s got some genuine “fans” but their numbers are nowhere near what they’re presented as.  I think once 1DHQ realized that she could be used as a vehicle for corporate promotional deals, they purposefully ramped up her “fanbase” to give it momentum. Lots of fans followed along because lots of fans are sheep.

Also, as worshippedlove just pointed out, Ellen Page and Alexander Skarsgard were “together” for over a year and had photos of intimate moments on their own social media accounts. Seeing as how they are both real stars with real fanbases, I really really disagree that her situation is unprecedented.
